Electrolux front-loaders are honest machines: when something fails, they stop and say so. The error code on the display is the washer's own first diagnosis. Tap a code for what it means, what you can safely check yourself, and what usually breaks. Exact meanings vary a little by model, and the tech data sheet tucked inside the cabinet lists yours (it's in the photo).
E11Didn't fill in time
The washer gave itself a window to fill and the water didn't arrive, or it was filling too slow. Check both faucets and the inlet screens first. E13Leak detected
Water where it shouldn't be. The usual suspects are a torn door boot seal, a loose hose inside the cabinet, or a drain path that backs up. Leaking water under a front-loader deserves a call early, because that is where water damage could start in the subfloor.
E21Didn't drain in time
The pump ran and the water stayed. Most often something is stuck in the pump or the drain hose is kinked behind the machine; otherwise it's a worn pump. A tub that can't drain also won't spin, so this code often arrives with a washer not spinning. Washing machine not draining →
E23 / E24Drain pump circuit
The board tried to run the drain pump and didn't see it respond. That points at the pump motor or its wiring. It's a meter job, not a guess: a pump failure and a wiring fault look the same on the display.
E31 / E35Water level sensor
The pressure switch that measures water in the tub isn't reading right, or it reads too much water (overflow). A clogged air trap or a cracked sensor hose can fake this code. The sensor itself can fail too.
E41 to E45Door lock family
The door didn't lock, or the board couldn't confirm that it did: latch, lock assembly, wiring, or the board circuit that drives the lock. Door not locking means the cycle never starts.
E5xMotor and drive
Codes in the 50s point at the drive motor or its control. A drum that won't tumble or agitate, a motor not working, or a washer that stops mid cycle with a hum: this is the family. Test first, then order a part.
No code on the display? Start with the symptom
- Filling too slow
Inlet screens or a scaling inlet valve. It's the E11 path just before the timer gives up.
- Washer not spinning
An unbalanced load first. Then the drain, because a tub that can't drain won't spin. Then motor and drive.
- Vibrating too much
Leveling feet and the pedestal first, then worn shocks or suspension springs.
- Stopping mid-cycle
Usually a sensor or the door lock stopped confirming. The code stored in memory says which.
- Making noises
Grinding on spin is often the drum bearings. A rattle during drain is often a coin in the pump.
- Buttons not working
Control lock may be on (it's on the panel). Otherwise it's the user-interface board.
- Dryer not starting
Door switch, thermal fuse, or the start circuit. Tripping breaker? That's the urgent one: stop resetting it.
- Dispenser won't work
Detergent left in the drawer means low water flow to the dispenser. It's the same inlet-valve story as E11.

Why Electrolux washers need a different kind of repair
