Dryer runs but does not heat.
On electric dryers, no heat can come from a burned heating element, blown thermal fuse, failed cycling thermostat, bad high-limit thermostat, control issue, loose terminal block, or a 240-volt supply problem where the dryer tumbles on one leg of power but cannot heat properly. On gas dryers, no heat often points toward the igniter, gas valve coils, flame sensor, burner assembly, or a safety shutdown caused by poor airflow. We test the heating system in order so you don't pay for the wrong part.
Dryer takes two or three cycles to dry one load.
When a dryer still gets warm but takes forever, airflow is the first suspect. A crushed duct behind the dryer, lint-packed vent, blocked exterior flap, long vent run, clogged blower housing, or lint screen residue can keep hot humid air trapped in the machine. Tampa Bay humidity makes a borderline airflow problem feel much worse because the dryer is already trying to push moisture into moist outdoor air. Dryer smells like burning lint or gets too hot.

Dryer will not start.
A dead dryer can be caused by a blown thermal fuse, failed door switch, bad start switch, broken belt switch, control-board failure, loose wiring, a breaker issue, or a bad outlet. On stackable laundry units, the diagnosis can also involve interlock systems and tight installation access. We verify power and safety circuits before recommending a major part.
Dryer squeals, thumps, grinds, or sounds like a freight train.
Dryer noise is usually mechanical. Squealing often comes from drum rollers, idler pulleys, belts, glides, or motor bearings. Thumping may point to flat-spotted rollers, a fraying belt, or something trapped between the drum and cabinet. Grinding can involve the blower wheel, drum support, glides, or motor. A noisy dryer usually gets worse, not better, so catching it early can prevent a small wear-item repair from turning into a larger job.
Dryer shuts itself off after ten or fifteen minutes.
That is rarely random — it is usually the machine protecting itself. When the vent path is restricted, heat builds inside the cabinet faster than the airflow can carry it out, and the cycling or high-limit thermostat cuts the cycle short. Left alone, the next domino is a blown thermal fuse and a dryer that will not heat at all. The honest fix starts with the airflow test, not with a thermostat swap — a new part in a choked system just buys a few weeks.
Auto-dry says done, but the clothes come out damp.
The moisture sensor bars inside the drum read the laundry as it tumbles — and a film of dryer-sheet and fabric-softener residue makes them read "dry" while the towels are still wet. It is one of the most common complaints on sensor-cycle dryers, and one of the cheapest to put right: the bars get cleaned and tested, the sensor circuit gets verified, and the vent gets checked, because restricted airflow stretches sensor cycles the same way. Timed-dry working while auto-dry fails is the classic signature.

Gas and electric dryer repair — plus stacked and ventless
Gas dryers
Require ignition and safety testing. We check the igniter glow, flame sensor response, gas valve coils, burner flame behavior, airflow, and shutoff pattern. A gas dryer that runs but doesn't heat isn't always a gas-supply problem; many times the ignition parts are failing under load.
Electric dryers
Require electrical and heat-circuit testing. We check the heating element, thermal fuse, cycling thermostat, high-limit thermostat, terminal block, power supply, and control output. Replacing a thermal fuse without fixing the airflow problem that caused it to blow is a shortcut that usually leads to another failure.
Stackable dryers & laundry centers

The U.S. Fire Administration counts about 2,900 home clothes-dryer fires a year, and failure to clean is the leading cause. That is why point 5 of our inspection is a lint-path audit of the whole cabinet, not a glance at the lint screen. The screen catches a fraction; the rest settles on the heater housing, the blower wheel, and the duct. If your dryer smells hot, runs hot, or the outside flap barely flutters when it runs, stop the load and have the path checked before the next one.

A Tampa Bay garage in August runs well over a hundred degrees, and plenty of dryers live there. The machine is trying to shed heat into a room hotter than its own cooldown target: thermostats cycle early, electronics age faster, and rubber door seals and belts bake. A garage dryer that shuts off mid-cycle in July and works fine in December is not haunted — it is heat-limited, and leveling, spacing and vent routing decide how well it copes.
