Almost never. A clicking burner that will not catch is a fouled or cracked igniter, or a port blocked by boil-over — cheap parts, quick job. A gas oven that heats weakly or not at all is usually the bake igniter: as it ages it draws less current, and below a certain draw the safety valve simply stops opening. We test the draw rather than guess.
Do you work on Kenmore and Maytag, or just the name brands?+
Both — and they are closer to "name brands" than people think. Whirlpool manufactures Whirlpool, Maytag and most modern Kenmore machines, so they share parts and share failure patterns. A Kenmore washer that fills but will not spin takes the same diagnosis as its Whirlpool twin, and the part is usually on the truck rather than a week away.
