A neighbor, not a franchise

I moved to Tampa Bay in 2008. Raised my family here. Built my business here. When your refrigerator breaks down the night before Thanksgiving, I'm not checking a service radius map — I'm checking whether I can get there before your turkey thaws.

I drew a small radius around my house on purpose. I know the power grid problems after storms. I know which neighborhoods have hard water that clogs ice makers faster. And I know that when you call a repair company, you want someone who actually shows up — not a technician dispatched from three counties away who has never completed a Sub-Zero repair.

Our neighbors trust us because we're part of the community. We're raising three kids here and teaching them to be respectful and useful to the people around them. We're not franchising. We're fixing refrigerators and other major appliances.

I do three or four jobs a day, sometimes fewer when the driving is long. That's on purpose. Whoever gets on the schedule gets the whole job done properly, without me watching the clock to get to the next address.

Repair or Replace — How I Actually Decide

There's no single rule, and anyone who gives you one is selling something. It depends on the appliance.

Washers are where the math turns. They're not expensive to replace, so once a repair gets to about half the price of a new machine, most people go buy the new machine — and I'll tell you when you're at that line rather than talk you past it.

Refrigerators are different. They cost far more to replace, parts are usually available, and the failures I see most — coils, fan motors, control boards — are real repairs with years left on the other side. Refrigerators get repaired far more often than they get replaced, and that's the honest answer, not the convenient one.

Premium and built-in equipment is almost always worth diagnosing first. Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Viking, GE Monogram, built-in KitchenAid — the repair cost on a unit built into your cabinetry is usually a fraction of replacement, and "the part is discontinued" is not the end of the conversation.

When I say don't repair it. It's rare, but it happens. Sometimes a refrigerant leak can't be located — Samsung units are where this comes up — and at that point I'll tell you straight that chasing it isn't worth your money.

A customer once declined a washer repair, then called a week later to have a replacement hooked up. I got there and it was a 24-year-old machine someone had put out on the street with a note saying it worked. I tested it and told him no — I wasn't going to install it, because it wasn't worth his time and money.

That call cost me the job. It was still the right answer.

We Save What Others Throw Away

This is the part most companies won't tell you. On premium and older built-in equipment — Sub-Zero, KitchenAid, GE Monogram, Thermador, Viking — the usual dead end is the control board. Manufacturers discontinue these boards five to seven years after the model ends, and the moment a parts counter says "no longer available," most shops tell you to replace a $6,000 to $14,000 built-in that's cut into custom cabinetry.

We don't stop at "discontinued." Working with a specialized board-repair partner, an out-of-production board can very often be restored at the component level — a burnt relay, a failed capacitor, a surge-scorched trace — instead of scrapped. We also cross-reference parts across sister brands, because a component that's "unavailable" under a Whirlpool badge is frequently still stocked under Maytag, Amana, or KitchenAid.
